SOS Saturday- ride the giant

Before the crowds of 180 kids take it over for #giantsheadfreeride, we headed out to see how the sleeping giant survived the winter.

After skating some local hills around Lake Country, we piled into the vehicles and made our way to giants head park Saturday. Being one of the first weekends that the road was open to traffic, everyone was unsure, but optimistic on the condition of the road. Giants head is a staple of any SOS trip. Giants head park is a mountain located in Summerland British Columbia. With a single paved road from top to bottom, the mountain is a longboarding haven with everything to offer. With few hikers due to the early season, little to no road traffic, we essentially had the place to ourselves.

Ride The Giant

Pulling up to the hill the mood was high. After sending it earlier in the day down an open road, the giant seemed like a great place to spend the day skating, and catching up with the homies. We were unsure if the road was going to be open or not due to construction. Anyone who was been to giants head knows that it is a slog from top to bottom. However, we were in luck and the gate was unlocked. Gravel from construction machinery was all over the road. Almost every corner from top to bottom had gravel in it. About an hour later, and after a ton of work, a path was cleared from top to bottom.

With the road clear and the sun out it was a perfect day. SOS is a great trip to reconnect with the skate family from all over, and giants head is a great place to shake off the rust. With little traffic on the hill, there were shuttle runs happening from top to bottom. With a BBQ brought by Stene (because he is the GOAT), we posted up above the final five and skated all afternoon uninterrupted.
