After a much needed day off, it's a new day, and a new hill. Many have said it, come for Danger Bay, stay for the Rash. But really, where else can you mob 80 km pack runs, on a weekday, with a ride up?
Getting through the race at Danger Bay is easy, surviving the party at night is not. With bands, booze, and a reason to celebrate most do not head to bed until the early hours of Monday morning. Thus, Monday was a struggle, and the rain did not help. Those who stayed, helped clean up, and were treated to an amazing meal hosted by Scoot and his family along with a very generous group of people (Thank you from us at Park Tek, everything was awesome!). Feeling somewhat human again, most lay down to sleep as a group in the hall, drifting off to a mixture of farts, snores, and laughter.

Jakes Rash Freeride
With the sun starting to show its head we woke up Tuesday morning hopeful and somewhat refreshed. We packed up the last bit of our gear before quickly heading to Java Docks to grab a coffee and breakfast. Twenty minutes, and one breakfast wrap later, we were heading up the Rash. We parked the car as the clouds dispersed, and the road started to dry up. As the day wore on it cleared right up, turning out to be a perfect day to get fast on the Rash.
Being the day before the race, the free ride is a great time to get tons of runs in with friends. It is also a great opportunity to get your setup dialled, on a closed road, with as little consequence as possible. The overall mood is ecstatic as packs of ten send it down the hill, five wide through spectators corner. With a quick shuttle in the back of a uhaul, you're back at the top of the hill. Rylan Raggie English, the event organizer, runs a tight ship, ensuring a maximum number of runs throughout the day. Not only is it a great place to work on your skills, but also a perfect place to get some runs in with friends. If you haven't been, rumour has it that the developer is going to extend the road to the top of the mountain next year. Mark it on your salamanders and we hope to see you all at a possibly bigger, and even better Jakes Rash Freeride.
